Earthquake Performance of Timber Dovetail Joints #worldresearchawards

Description

This study investigates the seismic performance of dovetail mortise–tenon joints in timber structures subjected to multidimensional seismic actions. By analyzing the mechanical behavior, stiffness degradation, energy dissipation capacity, and failure modes under combined horizontal and vertical earthquake excitations, the research evaluates the resilience and structural reliability of traditional timber joinery systems. Experimental testing and numerical simulations reveal the nonlinear response characteristics and deformation mechanisms of dovetail connections under complex seismic loading conditions. The findings contribute to improved seismic design strategies for timber heritage buildings and modern engineered wood structures, enhancing structural safety and sustainability in earthquake-prone regions.
